Business Tax Questions? Get Free Answers at January Small Business Talk

Running a business is challenging enough without trying to navigate complex tax requirements on your own. Whether you’re just getting started or have been operating for years, questions about sales tax, withholding, reporting, and compliance can surface at any stage.

To help Grant County business owners get clear, reliable answers, the City of Marion is partnering with the Indiana Small Business Development Center (ISBDC), the Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR), and Sonder & Sage Collective Accounting to host a free Small Business Talk focused on business taxes.

A Free Resource for ALL Grant County Businesses

This event is open to all Grant County businesses and start-ups, regardless of location within the county. There is no cost to attend, and individual registration is not required.

📅 Wednesday, January 21
⏰ 9:00–10:30 AM
📍 Marion City Hall | 301 S Branson Street

What to Expect

This Small Business Talk combines expert instruction with time for personalized questions and conversation.

Schedule highlights include:

  • 9:00–9:30 AM – Arrive early to network, socialize, and connect with other entrepreneurs

  • 9:30–10:30 AM – Group webinar led by the Indiana Department of Revenue, covering essential tax topics for businesses

  • Before and after the webinar – Live Q&A with local CPAs from Sonder & Sage Collective Accounting

Principals Katie Farrington and Lindal Walker of Sonder & Sage will be on hand to answer questions and provide additional insight tailored to local businesses.

Not Just for Start-Ups

While the DOR presentation begins with foundational information helpful to newer businesses, this session is not limited to start-ups.

In fact, many experienced business owners discover tax-related issues well after their first year of operation—often because key considerations were overlooked during startup. This event provides an opportunity to:

  • Address lingering or advanced tax questions

  • Gain clarity on past or current compliance concerns

  • Learn how to avoid common pitfalls moving forward

If you’ve ever wondered whether something was missed or misunderstood along the way, this session is designed to help.

No Registration Required

Because attendees will be logging in to the DOR webinar together at City Hall, individual online registration through the ISBDC website is not necessary. A sign-in sheet will be available on-site for attendance tracking purposes.

A QR code linking to additional information about the Department of Revenue training will also be available at the event.

Who Should Attend?

  • Small business owners

  • Start-ups and entrepreneurs

  • Home-based businesses

  • Retailers, service providers, and contractors

  • Anyone with questions about Indiana business taxes

If you know a business owner who is struggling with tax or financial questions, we encourage you to personally invite them to attend.
