Grant County Communities Push Forward with Investment, Innovation, and Infrastructure
The Grant County Economic Growth Council’s July board meeting showcased an exciting wave of progress taking place throughout the county—from vibrant community projects to bold investments in local infrastructure, education, and workforce development.

🚧 Community-by-Community Highlights
Jonesboro
A new motorcycle sales and service shop has opened downtown, contributing to revitalization efforts in the area. The town is also preparing to launch its new water plant, ensuring improved utilities for residents and businesses alike.
Gas City
From recreational upgrades to infrastructure improvements, Gas City is on the move. New pickleball courts are under construction, curbs are being installed in the professional park, and progress continues at the Samona Recovery Center. The city has already completed $1.3 million in paving work across its streets!
City of Marion
Significant updates are reshaping the city landscape. Brick roads are being removed as part of downtown construction, while INDOT installs new traffic signals along Highway 18. The Matter Park expansion will bring new soccer and pickleball courts to the community. The Jones Heritage development near the former Jones Middle School and riverfront area will feature apartments, storage, a restaurant, and retail space.
Upland
Growth in Upland continues to flourish. The Upland Public Library expansion will be celebrated during Labor Day weekend, and NearSpace Education will also hold a grand opening event for its growing space innovation hub. Townhomes in Upland are fully leased, with plans to add more residential units already underway.
Grant County
County Commissioner Shane Middlesworth shared updates on cleaning and beautification efforts at the courthouse, along with efforts to attract new businesses by identifying available warehouse space.
🎓 Education & Workforce Highlights
Ivy Tech
Chancellor Alex Huskey announced that Dr. Martin Pollio began his tenure as Ivy Tech’s new president on July 1. On August 14, the Marion campus will host a ribbon cutting for its state-of-the-art nursing simulation lab. Ivy Tech has also received Tier 2 designation as a Purple Star Campus, offering expanded resources for military-connected students. In partnership with Marion Health and the National Guard, Ivy Tech is strengthening skill-based training opportunities for service members and military students.
Pathways to Skills-Based Labor
Mayor Morrell continues to support local workforce development by awarding five scholarships annually to help students pursue high-demand career paths.
College & Career Fair
Organized by local leaders and hosted at Indiana Wesleyan University on October 1, the upcoming countywide College & Career Fair will bring together all high school juniors and seniors with colleges and employers.
